Breast Reduction
Breast reduction surgery involves reducing the volume of the breasts for various reasons. It's a popular choice among women striving for an ideal body shape, which in turn boosts their self-confidence and positively impacts their social and professional endeavours.
Why a Breast Reduction?
Breast reduction surgery is sought for various reasons, whether they are psychological or physical. Our doctors carefully consider each individual's concerns, offering specialised treatment. Some common reasons include:
Back and neck pain resulting from the weight of the breasts.
Discrepancy in breast size compared to other body parts.
Sweat and rashes beneath the breasts.
Shoulder pain due to the disproportionate size of the breasts.
Difficulty finding clothing that fits well due to breast size.
Before Breast Reduction:
As with any cosmetic procedure, adherence to specific guidelines is essential to ensure optimal results following the operation. Here are some important guidelines to consider:
Inform your doctors about any medications you are currently taking.
Disclose any chronic illnesses to your doctors.
Cease smoking or alcohol consumption at least 2 weeks before the operation.
Refrain from eating or drinking for 6-7 hours before the operation.
Report any allergies to medical products.
Discontinue use of aspirin, painkillers, herbal supplements, and vitamins for 1 week prior to the operation.
Additionally, thorough examinations related to the breast reduction operation will be conducted by your doctors to ensure your health and safety.
During Breast Reduction:
Once all examinations are completed, the doctors will prepare you for the operation. General anesthesia will be administered. The techniques used for incision placement will vary based on factors such as breast size and degree of sagging. Afterwards, any excess skin and breast tissue will be lifted to achieve harmony with the body and meet the patient's desired outcome. Nipple repositioning will then be performed to align with the new breast shape. Breast reduction surgery typically lasts 2 to 3 hours. Due to the effects of anaesthesia, patients are required to stay overnight at Harmony for monitoring and care.
After Breast Reduction:
Following surgery, adhering to specific guidelines is crucial for achieving optimal results and facilitating a rapid recovery. Here are essential post-operative instructions to follow:
Wear the provided medical corset/bra as instructed by your doctors.
Take showers at the times specified by your doctors.
Refrain from engaging in sexual activity for the first 2 to 3 weeks.
Avoid stretching your arms or lifting heavy objects for at least a month after the operation.
Do not sleep on your chest for the first 15 days post-operation.
Take prescribed medications regularly and as directed by your doctors.
Avoid participating in heavy sports activities during the first month following surgery.
Refrain from smoking and consuming alcohol.
Expect to return to normal activities within 2 to 4 weeks post-operation.
Note: Swelling and tingling sensations are normal after surgery. You will be provided with painkillers to manage discomfort, and these symptoms typically subside within the first few days after the operation.
